What is a President's Challenge? Every year, the current president of the guild challenges the members. The details are given early in the current year (September or October), and the member's offering is shown on the last meeting (June)
Jean Mi.: I have been interested lately in the variety of quilts we work on. Each of us has a different style, colour preference and preferred technique. There are so many individual decisions to be made when we construct a quilt. We sometimes can look at a quilt and immediately determine where that quilt originated due to its style, colour use and even the type and design of the quilting. Think blocks like Churn Dash, Wedding Ring or Lone Star. I have been drawn to the multicultural nature of quilts as the source of ideas. For our President’s Challenge for 2023-2034, I am suggesting a block or quilt with an international flair. Not the regular patchwork we do, but a block/quilt out of our normal comfort range. I have attached a few links to indicate what I think would be interesting to do. I would be looking for a block - 12” finished - or a runner, table topper or wall hanging for example. It can be hand done, machine done or a combination of both. A lot of the quilts are constructed in a way that is out of the ordinary for most of us. If you have any questions, please let me know. The project is due in June 2024 at our last meeting of the year. Places to visit: (only a few ideas)
